PM Modi Flags Off India’s First Hydrogen-Powered Train in Haryana, Launches ₹25,000 Crore Mega Infrastructure Projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off India's first hydrogen-powered fuel cell train in Jind, Haryana, marking a historic milestone in the country's journey towards clean and sustainable transportation. Designed and developed indigenously, the 10-coach train is among the world's longest hydrogen-powered passenger trains and operates by generating electricity through a hydrogen fuel cell, emitting only water vapour.
During his visit, PM Modi also launched and laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects worth over ₹25,000 crore across Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab. These projects include national highways, expressways, railway infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions aimed at accelerating economic growth and improving connectivity across North India.

A major highlight of the announcement is the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, a 157.92- kilometre greenfield corridor expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Katra from 14 hours to just 6 hours. The Jind- Gohana Greenfield Highway will further enhance regional connectivity by cutting travel time from two hours to only 40 minutes.
In Chandigarh, the Prime Minister inaugurated advanced healthcare infrastructure at PGIMER, including the Advanced Mother and Child Centre, a modern neurosciences centre, and laid the foundation for a new critical care block. These projects will significantly strengthen tertiary healthcare services for patients across Northern India.
The visit concluded in Punjab, where PM Modi inaugurated redeveloped railway stations, new railway lines, and additional expressway projects. The launch of India's first hydrogen train, combined with investments in highways, railways, and healthcare, reflects the government's commitment to sustainable mobility, modern infrastructure, and faster economic development.
