Fitness First: How Health Craze is Shaping Our Lifestyle and Dream Homes

Over the past several years, parks have turned into stages for some rather unusual fitness performances. Early mornings and evenings now showcase a mix of bizarre exercises — people crafting their own routines after watching others breathe deeply, twist strangely, or move rhythmically without music. What might look like a live adventure show is actually a live display of creative self-care. Nearby, stalls offer bitter gourd and bottle gourd juice as part of this health revolution.

This fitness obsession is no longer just about staying in shape — it's a full-on lifestyle. People have become hyper-aware of their physical and mental well-being. Everything, from food to daily habits, is viewed through the lens of health. Although some disturbing fitness videos circulate online, viewers often ignore the negative psychological impact. Mainstream media is cashing in too, airing expert-led workout shows with dramatic headlines. Ironically, trying to mimic these exercises at home, especially in tight spaces, can lead to accidents.

Mornings now begin with workouts, horoscopes, and a strong dose of positivity. Social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are packed with fitness content. From yoga poses to diet trends like keto and veganism, influencers and experts flood our feeds, each claiming their method is best. Many switch from one plan to another in search of faster or better results.

Even social norms have changed. Once, guests were offered tea, coffee, or soda. Now, green tea is common — and if you choose tea, be ready to pick from almond milk, cow’s milk (then decide between skimmed, whole, or toned), and sweeteners like sugar or stevia. At one gathering, I was caught off guard by these options — a reminder that we're all now part of this health marathon, even if I'm still taking baby steps.

Daily conversations often include health tips and remedies. Even while chatting, some start rubbing their nails (believed to reduce grey hair). When meals are served, health benefits of each dish are highlighted. Everything must now have a purpose — grilled, drilled, and beneficial. Beyond food and conversation, physical activities are also making a comeback. Cycling, once seen as outdated or a necessity, is now trendy. Dedicated bike lanes are being built alongside roads. Owning a cycle can be a symbol of a health-conscious lifestyle. People also invest in multiple fitness memberships — yoga, swimming, jogging, gym — to stay energized and active. Fitness has become such an integral part of life that it now influences how we choose our homes. While location still matters, modern homebuyers also seek wellness-focused amenities — from gyms and pools to cycling tracks and yoga spaces. Earlier, we chose homes based on surroundings alone, but today, wellness-driven features make a big difference.
